Next-Generation Modem Integration
The upcoming iPhone SE 4, expected to launch in early 2025, may introduce significant technological advancements, including an Apple-designed 5G modem. According to a report from 9to5Mac, the modem will be integrated with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS functionality, signaling a bold move toward consolidating wireless components. Code-named “Centauri,” this modem represents Apple’s efforts to reduce the need for separate chips for these technologies, providing a more streamlined device. Apple has been working on this in-house 5G modem technology for several years, and the iPhone SE 4 is slated to be the first model to test the hardware, giving Apple the chance to assess its performance with a lower-volume product.
There are conflicting reports regarding the modem’s readiness. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman previously suggested that such a multifunctional chip combining Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS wouldn’t be available soon, leaving some uncertainty over the extent of integration in the iPhone SE 4. Nonetheless, the inclusion of this technology marks a significant step in Apple’s move away from reliance on third-party suppliers like Qualcomm. While Gurman believes initial performance gains may be minimal, Apple aims to evolve and optimize the modem for deeper integration in future iPhone models.
Performance Enhancements with A18 Chip and Apple Intelligence
Another major enhancement for the iPhone SE 4 is the expected inclusion of the A18 chip, the same processor found in the current iPhone 16 models. This chip, combined with 8GB of RAM, will support Apple Intelligence, a feature that’s becoming a cornerstone of Apple’s mobile ecosystem. Apple Intelligence leverages the A18’s capabilities to improve device performance and user experience, enabling faster processing speeds and enhanced AI functions.
The A18 chip will bring the iPhone SE 4 in line with Apple’s flagship models in terms of processing power. This inclusion solidifies the SE model’s role as a powerful yet more affordable alternative to the higher-end iPhones. However, even with these cutting-edge features, the iPhone SE 4 will be positioned as a mid-range device, expected to be priced between $400 and $500.
Design and Camera Updates
The iPhone SE 4 is rumored to adopt a design similar to the iPhone 14, featuring a 6.1-inch OLED all-display with Face ID, marking the end of the Touch ID fingerprint sensor in Apple’s iPhone lineup. This design update, along with the introduction of a single-lens rear camera, will modernize the SE model while keeping it distinct from Apple’s flagship phones. While there’s only one rear camera, the SE 4 may use the same 48-megapixel wide camera featured in the iPhone 15, delivering a significant boost to its photography capabilities.
Other anticipated features include a notch for the TrueDepth camera system, an Action Button, and a USB-C port, in line with Apple’s latest design trends. The iPhone SE 4, while maintaining a more modest feature set compared to the flagship models, aims to deliver high performance and modern features at a more accessible price point.
